Save Yankee Stadium : A Wish from the Midwest

I haven’t written an entry in a long time. Besides being extra-busy at work and home, I haven’t felt moved to write because I don’t see where my writing can make any difference in this world. However, today it doesn’t matter if I make a difference or not; I must get out what I have been feeling about Yankee Stadium.

Tulsa World Digs at Sally Kern One More Time

In case you missed it, front page of the Local Section under the fold in today’s Tulsa World has a little story about Sally Kern. You know who she is, she is the woman who dared to defy the “Gay Agenda” and actually compared it to something bad. The Tulsa World’s crack team of defenders of the Liberal Faith has struck a blow to avenge the insults.

Housing bailout bill passed Congress

Analysis: Congress passed the most expensive housing legislation in decades today, offering a bailout to lenders and homeowners to stabilize a troubled housing market. President Bush is expected to sign it despite reservations. This action comes as some members of Congress are under investigation for personally profiting by special home loans and insider VIP deals.

Energy solutions needed, not excuses

As Oklahomans travel this Memorial Day weekend, one thing is certain — they will feel the pressure of skyrocketing gas prices. Prices at the pump have never been higher nationwide, and most Americans will pay nearly $4 for a gallon of gasoline this weekend. Four dollars. At a time when American families are already feeling the strain of rising food and consumer prices, $4 a gallon is certainly hard to swallow.

Karen Keith campaign contributions: Spending like there’s no tomorrow

Karen Keith raised $73,392 between Feb. 28 and July 15, 2008, of which $16,574 was in amounts of $200 or less. She has spent $42,471 — an astonishing amount given the lack of a primary. Most of that has gone to indirect costs: $17,900 was spent on outside consultants, $5,000 on “copyrighting” [sic — probably means copywriting], $4,365 on staff labor, $850 for logo and artwork, $900 on a website. (Hosting is relatively inexpensive, so I assume most of that cost is for a consultant to design and launch the site.) Facilities cost — utilities, rent, phone, water cooler, alarm monitoring, moving — total about $4,300. Only about $5,000 has gone into direct voter contact — mail pieces, phone calls, and materials for door-to-door campaigning.

Kaiser and Margaret Erling-Frette

Was poking around in the Oklahoma Ethics Commission’s website and found an interesting factoid in the section on lobbyists. Seems that the current principal lobbyist for the Kaiser Family Foundation is Margarette Erling-Frette. You remember her, the principal lobbyist for Great Plains Airlines?
